Hydraulics has been implemented in various industries and improved on throughout the years, and due to this more industries are turning to hydraulics as a solution to their industrial needs. As these advancements occur new designs are created, and new equipment is added to the workshop floor improving applications and delivering better results.
A recent advancement in hydraulic application was created by a company in Utah, USA, ECO Green Equipment, who designed a hydraulically powered cracker mill able to crank out up to 4 000lbs of crumb rubber per hour in sizes smaller than 6 mesh. Crumb rubber and rubber powder is made from recycled tyres and are in demand for use when creating artificial turf, playground surfaces, and pavements.
In the past this crumb rubber was recycled within a cracker mill using a fixed or narrow range of speed differentials which limited their ability to create enough material at the correct quantity and size. The newly designed hydraulic version, known as the Krumbuster, within the same setup, can produce up to 20 000lb per hour of 30 mesh rubber powder, and uses 35% less horsepower than before.
When there are changes in friction ratios, high shock loads and changing pressures, the hydraulic components and power responds quickly. Traditional cracker mills have their friction ratios fixed, and therefore cannot maintain full torque throughout their speed range. With this advancement due to hydraulic innovation, not only is the output of crumb rubber and rubber powder higher, but there is also less of an impact on the environment. Compared to the mechanical drive of a traditional cracker mill, the Krumbuster is more energy-efficient and needs little maintenance. Hydraulic applications are making changes to industries around the world due to their low maintenance, ease of use and efficiency.
